steady rollin'

Today has been vastly less productive than the weekend.

I went to spin class this morning since the gym wasn’t closing for the holiday and it was the best worst idea ever. My body feels great, but I had to nap around 11ish since I'd woken up so early (it was a 7am class and I didn't get to bed until quite late). The apartment right now is like PERFECT napping temperature and I keep having to resist cuddling up for a second nap. So comfy, but I'd like my sleep schedule not to be completely fucked.

Since CBS has been streaming all of S1 Elementary, I've been going through a rewatch. I'm on the last three eps. There's a part of me that really wants to read fic, but the vast majority of me is just so thoroughly satisfied that fic-reading is probably not going to happen.

I'm super pleased though about my progress on the Losers Big Bang. I didn't think I'd get nearly as far as I'm at right now (5 fully inked pages!) and it's making me excited at the thought of actually getting something to print again. I have some thoughts, and a whole lot of PTO saved up for around the holidays. I feel somewhat unprepared for the workweek, as I'm taking some time off the following, so there's a lot to do in four days. I'm hoping also that we'll be reviewing resumes somewhat earlier in the week and not later since I am dead curious what the trimmed down version of our applicant pool looks like.

In other news, more Pacific Rim arts, this time for Hot Dads Awareness Week.

All good things

No more splint (except at night!) which is leading to my thumb aching more throughout the day, but I’m excitedly relearning how to use the spacebar and how to not be afraid of putting pressure on it.

Overall, I've accomplished a lot this weekend and feel like I'm getting back on track with everything and not as overwhelmed. I went to a spin class yesterday morning which will be going into my routine. It was great fun except for the fact that I haven't ridden my /own/ bike for over a month and oh god, so saddle sore, I can't even. Besides that I have a fic finished and off for a read-through, new arts that I’m no longer hating, and progress on my commissions/obligations. I’m also looking forward to my work week since exciting things are happening. :D

I am hesitant to catch up on SPN, mostly because I hate that I’ve become invested enough again that I don’t want to be disappointed. Buh. I should probably catch up on White Collar first, since that has a much smaller chance of disappointing me. J and I also went to see The Croods, which was much better than I was expecting (Dreamworks movies are so hit and miss with me) but I enjoyed it pretty thoroughly, even if I couldn't ever divorce myself from picturing Nic Cage the whole time.

feeling extroverted but too tired to do much of anything about it

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I hyper-extended my left thumb a couple weeks ago while um, rescuing a box of kittens from a pack of rabid wolves. Really though, of all the things, I was turning on my bike light. It was the LED kind that sits on my spokes and I was pushing with about the strength of forcing a tack into a wall, but ugh, if I knew I could possibly injure myself, I would've approached that motion in a completely different way. Lesson learned. Thanks, body. It finally mostly doesn't hurt, and later this week is my appointment with a specialist to make sure I didn't do any long term damage to the joint. Bluh. I had to put a hold on my Krav classes, so I ended up joining the rock climbing gym that my cubemate joined. No climbing for me anytime soon, but they've got a decent amount of machines and a bunch of other fitness classes at convenient times, so it's been nice.

I'm wrestling slightly with feeling stretched thin. Mostly it's that injuring my hand has affected my ability to sleep throughout the night. Add that to how the VFX class I'm taking continues to be difficult and mentally exhausting, and I'm using the weekends to rest and recover. I'm happy that I'm learning a lot, and there's only one month left before I get those hours back.

J and I have begun looking around at other places to live. As much as I like to bitch about my neighbors they're actually pretty okay when not practicing the same song over and over on a mildly out of tune guitar, but we'd love a bit more space and the ability to have a pet. I'd be happy with a cat, but J really, really, really wants a dog, so that severely limits our pool of options. We put in a rental app yesterday for a house that is 95% perfect and I'm really antsy about it. I just want to know now whether or not we're in the running! There's another apartment in the same area that seems promising, but we have extremely reasonable rent in an extremely nice neighborhood to live in, so it's tough to give that up only for the option to get a pet while everything else (no laundry, no yard) is a lateral move. Here's to hoping, and it's nice that we don't have a pressing need to move, so we can take our time looking.

This year, how so fast.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I still can't get over the fact that it's July already.

Work is fluctuating between being so busy I get easily exasperated and having exciting projects that keep me entertained and on my toes. I have my truck back for the time being, but I'll still need a new car if I end up staying put.

Last weekend J and I went hiking up on Mt Tam. It was gorgeous, and he took some absolutely beautiful photos. Check them out, they're seriously pretty! On our way back we hit up Food Truck Sunday and Three Twins in Larkspur. Delicious~~~ This weekend we'll probably be going out again somewhere, maybe up to Napa if J feels like driving that far. It was so misty when we went that under the tree canopy it was essentially raining so I didn't really get to do any trail running, so I'm hoping that I can get in at least a half mile run wherever we go this weekend.

On the fannish front I finished up a Superman/Batman I did for trade, though I won't be posting that until well after the fancomic's publish date. Poking slowly at my Artsy WIP folder and making progress on random things. I've also been plotting out my [community profile] kink_bingo card and have a few ideas already that seem promising. Here's to hoping I make a bingo this year!

I went hiking!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Over on Tumblr, the Sherlock BBC fandom has set up a Fitness Challenge. It was pretty much the nudge I needed to finally sign up for Fitocracy, and also the nudge I needed to go spend our REI dividend and get poles and new shoes for hiking. I ended up with minimalist shoes since a couple people on my flist are huge fans, and typically I run in Converse anyway. I ended up with a pair of Vivobarefoot trail shoes and they're lovely. We did a 6 mile hike with 3 of being steep hills and there was none of that needing to break in a new shoe or anything, and I am all excited to go to John Muir and ease back into trail running. :D

J and I rented a car and went to Yosemite for the day. I'd never actually been, and now that we're not living on the coast, it's such a brief drive that I expect we'll do more day trips in the future. We also met up with E yesterday evening to see Snow White. I enjoyed it, and OT3'd it, and seriously want some hotwrong Queen/SW. Sometimes though the problem with being so familiar with visual effects is that I (and J & E) end up dissecting a lot of the effects and not being quite as immersed. Avengers is still eating my brain though, that I doubt I'll dabble in anything fandomish for the movie. Mostly I came out of it wanting to run home and play more Diablo, hah. Since I'm playing mostly Diablo right now, I'm thinking I may cancel my WOW account until we get our internet fixed properly (it keeps dropping out and losing signal) which is...not good on a pvp server and for someone whose main is tank/heals. It's a pain in D3 to drop out here and there, but with someone else in the party keeping the instance going it's not nearly as frustrating. I'm pretty tempted to try and get DSL set up instead of cable, and run them both for a month to see if it's fast enough for our household.

Current Avengers watching tally is at a mere 3. Hopefully I'll be able to make it back in for a 4th showing at some point. Today I'm going to try and draw a bit, and later in the day we potentially have some friends coming into town. Plans are loose, but I do know if they make it there will be dinner at our favorite Pakistani place. Yum.

bulletpoints of eurgh

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I have brought an obscene amount of work home with me tonight in preparation for tomorrow. Tomorrow officially starts the STUPIDBUSY portion of this month. After that though, it will be smooth sailing until the holidays. Whee.

Mr. Arms absolutely kicked my ass at the gym. Tomorrow I'm going to be lucky if I can pull on a shirt. Reverse grip DB bench presses are surprisingly hard. Compared to the last two weeks, I had a ton of energy so was able to really push myself. When I nail a set of bodyweight pull-ups I am fucking going out for margaritas.

In a final bulletpoint of pure happy, I did some sewing yesterday and got a waistcoat all stitched together and ready to mark up for where it needs some custom fitting. Compared to the last pattern I worked off of, this one is lovely and all that fabric and buttons I picked up ultra cheap a few months ago means I have so much flexibility in regards to lining. I missed sewing!

chaos everywhere

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Normally Mondays are my "get shit together" day, where I get my paperwork sorted out and all the things prepped for the Really Busy days that follow. Not today. Today was zomfg do what you normally do in eight hours in a single hour, plus some. Chaos ensued.

But I survived! And I made it out of the office on time (mostly) without leaving too much undone and got to the gym precisely on time for Mr. Arms to kick my ass as usual. I'm completely worn out now but content. We mixed cardio into the weights and with that plus the running I can see that my stamina is slowly going up along with my strength. I love being able to measure my progress, although based on my energy level for the past couple weeks, I might need to consider that I'm not eating enough again with how frequently I've been managing to go to the gym. Food, such a pain in the ass for me, I swear.

I did enough computer work today that even though I want to do some drawing, my wrist could probably use a rest, so I'm going to grab my notebook instead and see about writing. I'm hoping not to have to fall back on drawing to make my bingo in kink bingo, but at this rate I have no idea if I'll finish any of these fics on time! The nice thing is that I've been reading more. AO3 is proving handy to keep open and try and read at least one fic/chapter while winding down for sleep.

this is not doing my homework

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Blue assures me she will be spending her day off writing. That makes one of us. :p At this point, I'm hoping to go to the movies or something and celebrate being done with this semester. I am feeling withdrawal over IM2.

I went to the gym after work today and if I thought I was sore after Tuesday, I'm expecting tomorrow to be hilarious. Normally I love driving a stick, but coming home was a little torturous. J laughs every time I sit down and am all GYARGH. Seriously body, it hasn't been that long.

I'd bought myself new workout pants, which fit nicely until I tried running in them. *facepalm* Newsflash, I still hate cardio and I still have no hips. I'm going to have to alter them or add a drawstring or something. Suspenders ain't gonna work for this. I think the only thing I don't like about the new gym is that seriously every piece of equipment has a TV attached to it. I'm surprised there isn't a TV screwed into the ceiling over the weight benches (well I'm assuming, I haven't looked yet since apparently bodyweight exercises are murder). It would irritate me less if it didn't block my view out the windows, or maybe if there were things I wanted to watch. Ha.

So I accidentally took a four hour nap after I got home. I'm sure I needed it, but now instead of writing my term paper I just want to go to bed and sleep even more.

yay, bike. yay, gym. yay, coffee.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
It was gorgeous out so I took my bike to work today. I need to oil my chain to see if it'll last a while longer before really needing fixing, but it wasn't too fussy on a midgear so that makes me happy. J keeps telling me it's going to rain again so I'm going to enjoy this weather while it lasts.

I finally got a membership at the Y the other day and went in after my shift. Since I work so close to downtown now, it's super convenient and as I'd hoped it would be is a perfect fit into my schedule. Can't wait to go again, although my legs are completely dead. Someone did not factor in the uphill biking immediately upon leaving. Or the dead batteries in the bike lights. Oops.

Pulled a beautiful shot and poured a perfect rosetta on a capp today, that was also happy making. I love the espresso we use, it's delicious. *_*

Last night J and I hung out with new people in one of those sorts of trial friend date things. They were chill and we all got along nicely so it looks like J's got a new pair of running buddies. As a bonus, they have kittens and want J to come over and feed and play with them in Feb when they'll be gone for a few days. Win!
