next step is writing a to-do list

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I typically put a movie on while trying to fall asleep and for the past couple nights I've been watching Van Helsing. Even though the overdone effects haven't aged well and I begin to hate how the baddies leap acrobatically everywhere, I do love all the camp. The sets and costuming are still the most gorgeous thing ever, and I adore the corny bits all the more every time I see it again. In my heart of hearts, I still hope for a sequel in which Gabriel and Carl have Grand Adventures. ♥

Since the semester ended, I feel as if I've been catching up and that now, finally, things are properly settling down. It's a good feeling. J and I still haven't managed to make it to the zoo to sketch animals, which I blame mostly on staying up late to marathon shows we'd fallen behind on, so maybe next week for that.

Doing some work on my site today and some client stuffs, although since I'm working the desk tomorrow the things I have to do for the cafe I'm going to schedule for then. I'm thinking I'll do some drawbles for porn battle to warm up to drawing today. There are so many shiny prompts though, that picking a few will be tough.

will work for coffee

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Earlier today I almost had a "no one yells at me" moment similar to the evil twin's, but while rationally I understand the written exchange in the retail log, emotionally I am less than happy with the tone of it. Particularly when my comment was left in the intent to be constructive and seek the root of the problem rather than merely addressing the symptom. My feathers will be less ruffled tomorrow I'm sure, but it made the decision a whole lot easier to apply for another job today. It would be doing pretty much exactly what I do now which I love, and hopefully with more hours and spiffier perks. I cross my fingers.

After work yesterday, J and I saw Up. I can't even pretend to be a robot anymore. :( My superpower to callously watch the most heart-wrenching films has abandoned me and now I get all sniffly over everything. I had no idea what to expect out of Up based on what I'd seen at Wondercon, but as usual, I wasn't disappointed. It was lovely, both visually and emotionally. I'd happily see it again.

95% of this movie makes me want to capslock

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Because he loves me, J took me to see Wolverine again.

Gambit's eyes bothered me more this time since I was not so distracted by Sabretooth. Also, Deadpool, but I'm hoping a whole movie for him will retcon things. Ryan Reynolds = ♥

That said, my gripes are still minor and the Logan/Remy hit me a whole lot harder. I mean, sure, I know that I completely project the Sabretooth and Wolverine flirting, but good lord, I really don't need much of the slash goggles with Gambit. Nice stick, indeed. Am extra happy now that the evil twin is helping me finish my Logan/Remy fic. Guh.

I find it somewhat hilarious that J has had pretty gnarly sideburns for a few months now and he just recently buzzed his head again. I know it's just that hot weather has cropped up, but I like to think he loves me that much.

I...I should be asleep since I open the cafe tomorrow, but I think I'll write, just a little.

FANGS.

Star Trek, WWTD, and a Cillian Murphy RPS rec

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So here's my belated Trek post. I saw Star Trek on Friday afternoon its opening weekend. I was blown away. They did such an amazing job, and especially to treat the reboot as they did where it just opens up so much potential...I am excited.

Blather and shipping and all the spoilery stuff... )

...in other news, if it's true that the guy who played George Kirk is going to be Thor, I am a little flaily. Crossovers! Yespls.

I just read this Cillian Murphy/Ruth Negga fic by jackandahat@DW on chromatic_fanfic@DW and it is smoking hot. Breakfast on Pluto RPF skirtporn is win. There is another one, with pegging, which I've tabbed open for later. slfkjs.

omg watchmen

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Despite slight miscommunication between [info]nekofreak and I, we met up and made it to Wondercon with perfect timing. The line moved super fast, we got our badges without hassle, and then skimmed through the exhibition hall and up the stairs to make it in to the panel for Watchmen.

So, the opening sequence and the first ten minutes or so was breathtaking. I am even more excited now than I was before.

BUT TO BE HONEST I WAS MORE EXCITED ABOUT JDM'S ADORABLY TOUSLED HAIR AND SPRAWLING. I had line of sight, so I don't think I was even looking at the screen unless he was on it. Ahaha. Out of politeness to the people next to me, well, the person who was not Neko and thus unprepared, I kept my excited wriggling down to a minimum. I wanted to strangle all the idiots who failed at the Q&A, but I'll reluctantly give points to the girl who asked about scenes they were excited or dreading to film and got a sarcastic response from JDM about the spoilerspoiler scene. Sarcasm win.

movies

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
J and I went to see Tropic Thunder. Hilarious. Further hilarity came from paying attention to our fellow audience members' reactions. Some of them were absolutely priceless. At one point the girl in front of us absolutely started howling with laughter. Hee.

kinda spoilery? )

Also, we saw the trailer for Scorpion King II which absolutely kills me. J had just told me the other day that they had made a second one. As much as I love the first one for being wonderfully terrible, this one is uh, going to be a pass. :p

I want to do a bit more drawing today, but I think I'm just going to curl in bed since I had a productive morning. Can't believe my "weekend" is practically over already. I never even got the laundry done!

Hancock

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Okay, who has seen it and can squeal with me?

J and I just got back from seeing Hancock with [info]nekofreak. omfg. I expected it to be a fairly standard summer blockbuster: a complete popcorn muncher with some feel-good character transformation, but wow, the whole thing was so much more than I expected! My mind is blown two nights in a row. The tone was interesting, and even if some of the scenes ran long or felt constructed entirely for a summer audience, a lot of the themes throughout were just fascinating.

It totally kept me wondering what was going to happen next in a very good way, and I'm so curious about some of the symbolism. For once I actually liked Charlize Theron rather than just feeling overly meh about her. This could be in part due to the fact that Jason Bateman's character is a Big Adorable Puppy and their relationship didn't at all feel contrived.

Need I bother to mention that Will Smith looks smoking hot in tight leather? Possibly I should, because he does, although there was a noticeable lack of gratuitous showering ala I Robot.

I totally need fic for this.

eta:There is possibly some meta bouncing around in my head, especially since there are some parallels that can be made to Iron Man, but that will need to stew in my brain for a bit since I don't make with journalling my metathoughts very often. :3

Southland Tales, Het Challenge, and a Die Hard fic rec

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
We watched Southland Tales last night. There are some movies which I find very hard to recommend, but that just blow my mind and give me a certain level of excitement for the future of film-making. It was fascinating on so many levels to me, visually obviously, but I particularly liked how much it made me think. Some of that I'm sure is due to how it's somewhat rambling and surreal so I couldn't just let a simple, linear plot wash over me, but it maintained this underlying current that managed to hold everything that seemed fantastical or bizarre together in such a way that I never felt that the most absurd things were actually absurd. The cast in and of itself was fascinating, since it made me keenly aware how much I mentally typecast so many of them. I'd love to let it sit in my head for a while and watch it again, which isn't something I really got from Donnie Darko. All in all, I adored it.

Also, someone should so write me Seann William Scott and Dwayne Johnson RPS or point me towards it if it exists. Everytime I see them together it makes me feel embarrassingly squealy. Seriously. I have such a massive crush on Dwayne Johnson, one which I can feel better about everytime he's in a movie I want to watch for the movie's sake and not just because I want to paw at his biceps and see him smile. I'm dying to go see Get Smart. Tomorrow hopefully. :x

[info]het_challenge is still open for prompts until the 5th. This time it's a mix and match. I highly encourage people to drop by and leave some prompts so there are more fandoms and characters represented! Head over to this post and drop off a list of up to 5 pairings or moresomes of mixed gender and up to 5 scenarios for everyone to choose from!

Fic Rec:

Die Hard - Save As, John/Matt, by [info]poisontaster for the Small Fandom Big Bang. I've hardly read in the fandom since John/Matt is not something I can see really easily, but she wins me over every time with the way she writes them. This is a fantastic story, with the sort of character development from beginning to end and the quality of writing that reminds me so thoroughly of everything I love about reading fanfic. The pacing and emotional intensity and omghotness had me ignoring everything this morning in favour of reading all the way to the end in a single sitting.

everyone loves robots

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
WAll-E is the cutest thing ever. Pixar is the only animation studio that could possibly make me want my very own pet cockroach. Adorable. ADORABLE. Also, if I push Cars out of my mind (as I do, no matter how much I love Owen), I'm constantly amazed at how they manage to take rather formulaic romances and make them work so well for me. Did I mention adorable?

The nice thing about watching something so flawlessly animated is that it really gets me all fired up to work on my models. I'll probably start over once again on a human figure and do that a few times over until I can get a base model built from scratch in a half hour. It's a good kick in the butt to haul out my anatomy book again and do some charts.

J won us some tickets to see the Grand Archives play tomorrow night at Slim's. Cue my happy. I'm curious if the set list will be different this time! Also, am curious how their sound is going to be on this leg of the tour. If it wasn't so flipping cold I'd wear the cute new skirt I bought. Alas, walking five miles in a skirt is not going to happen with this weather. The weather from a week ago, sure, but now? Not so much. Bleh. I feel so whiny about weather lately, but I don't do well when it swings between extremes so quickly. Am considering going in early before the show and trying to pick up a new pair of converse. Also a few new shirts since my wardrobe seems to have defaulted back to nothing but black and red. Sometimes, I feel like my chest of drawers is to clothing as Crowley's car is to cassette tapes.

Anyway, 1mr was updated the other day. Alas, the comic remains without a real robot. I recommend overcoming your disappointment by going to see Wall-E. :3

cleaning out the emails... and some iron man fanart

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I went through my inbox ruthlessly to clear out the detritus and so I could actually /see/ the important things which need responding to. That responding to is on the to-do list for tomorrow after the requisite fresh batch of omg-give-me-a-job-already emails littered with the appropriate action verbs. The humane society down the street is hiring for a position I'm over-qualified for, and paying roughly half than the places I'm at round two on, and that one's looking like a no-go. I'm beginning to fear I am jinxed for everywhere I actually want to work and devote my energy towards. Seriously, nothing sucks more than seeing a fresh post for a job you applied for a week prior. @_@ Job hunting drives me crazy. So much crazy that I'm actually looking at the design field again and considering going back to selling my soul and dying inside for infuriating clients with zero morals. I remind myself that I have a cute illustration gig in the meantime for a perfectly nice client.

Aside from sending off resumes to die in a big black void somewhere in the intertubes and also cleaning up my emails, I biked with J to the marina today. We were riding against the wind on the way there, and my knees felt it by the time we got off the road. I sat on a bench and squirrel watched for a bit while J lazed in the grass. There was a baby squirrel which was the Cutest Thing Ever, and after that scampered off, I moved over onto the grass too. Lazing felt supremely nice, and it was kindof adorable when the mama squirrel came up so close as to nibble on the bike light strapped to my backpack. Hee.

The rest of the housemates joined us in going to watch Iron Man again. Unf. Second viewing retains high level of omfgwee. So amazingly sexy, in so many ways. Pls to be hurrying up with sequel so I can fangirl to death over War Machine. ...oh man, suddenly it occurs to me that I should totally draw some Tony Stark/War Machine. :x

ETA: Did a quick Stark/Rhodes doodle. Um, haha, pardon the scrawl. Next time I want to draw Stark crawling naked all over Rhodes in War Machine and oh, I don't know, sucking on something phallic, but this'll do to sate my fangirling for now. :3

Post-Semester Checklist

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Finals ended yesterday, and my To-Do List for this weekend is:

Sleep 8 hours straight
Cake for breakfast (thank you, neko!)
Have margaritas with J.
Pick up clay and sculpture tools
See Iron Man
Play a shitload of LOTRO (ongoing)

I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

But really, the important one crossed off on that list tonight was Iron Man. How about that two hour orgasm, huh? sldkfjlskjg. Every movie should have robot fights.

and it all comes together

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
My perspective assignment this week is to reverse storyboard, so I rewatched BDS the night before last to see if I wanted to do a scene from that. Ultimately, the consensus was no, but yay for a fresh viewing.

Last night, our movie selection ended up bringing everything full circle back to BDS. First, J and I watched Fido. It was cute. Not as funny as I'd hoped, but it was somewhat thought-provoking under all the silly zombie humour and it definitely had its moments.

Then, after further affirmation that my love for Billy Connolly knows no bounds, we watched... wait for it... Rambo.

Not that I was expecting much, but... really. There were exactly five good parts. Four of which were courtesy of the hot sniper and his hot M107. The fifth being the first few seconds of Rambo getting his hands on a mounted machine gun. does this even need a spoiler cut?? ) I so want to play some BF2 now and work on getting my next sniper badge. *_*

now i have to wait until monday

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
My interview yesterday went pretty well. It helps that I don't get nervous with practically any form of speaking anymore. I'll know by Monday anyway, which is quick enough to not leave me going D: for an extended period of time. Justin has already encouraged me to decide upon dining locations for both celebration or consolation. Hee.

Which, speaking of food, we are in love with the Japansese restaurant that's a few blocks away from our place. They have really really good sushi. Spider roll = slflskjgskl. And via thier drink menu, I've discovered the joy of sake and ginger ale. I'm really not much of a sake drinker, but that is omgdelicious. One drink killed me though. I are cheap date.

So...although I had seen the Transporter 2, I had not seen the first one. Wow. You know, I am a fan of the action genre, and that was ridiculously awesome in all the best ways. And so overwhelmingly homoerotic the housemates were wondering if I had developed some sort of telekinetic power to warp the images onscreen to suit my tastes. I have NO CLUE why I didn't watch it with J previously, as it was totally up my alley and then some. Well, okay, the Head Bad Guy wasn't really pulling off the prison-stache and it could have used the Good Buddy archetype to really seal the deal, but I'll take some Sly Laid-back Detective any day. God bless Jason Statham and his need to show off his abs every five minutes.

home again (with parenthesis abuse)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
After a week away, and sadly getting hit with just as much rain as the bay area, J and I are back home again. We made good use of our time away from home at least, and racked up a good deal of movie watching. In theatres we managed to catch I am Legend (first half was awesome, second half was adequate), National Treasure (cliche laden guilty pleasure ftw), Juno (good, but more proof to me that the indie genre is now firmly a genre of its own), and The Golden Compass (so much better than Narnia, but now I wish I'd read the book). We also burned through our remaining Netflix to see Black Sheep (amusing, but Slither is way better on the comedy-horror front), BSG: Razor (part of me would like to discuss the show and the rest thinks I should tell my brain to shut up and just enjoy it for what it is), and then Mike Leigh's Naked (fantastic monologues and win on the minimalist format, but man, that was a heavy movie, left my brain buzzing for hours. ...i want to have thewlis's werewolf babies even more now though, I'm just saying).

There were also countless errands, haircuts for J and I, and a small bit of shopping (I have severe envy over J's new jacket). For all that I feel terribly unproductive since I got absolutely no drawing done (okay, that's a lie, I managed a little), looking back, I did a lot this week. :3

I love stickers. and curry. and my bicycle. and simon.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Our friend Tim is visiting from Sacramento! This is the first time J and I got to meet him face to face. I love having visitors. :D

There's an Amtrak stop right near our house which is handy since he was able to take that straight here. After he arrived yesterday and was escorted to our place, we all went to japantown for stickers and pastries and cute new chopsticks. I bought a new set with bunnies on them and had some delicious curry soba. *_* While we were coming home, there were a bunch of cyclists (hundreds) going up Van Ness. It was neat to see, but also highly unfortunate since they weren't following the rules of the road. I love bicycling, but that sort of rally just hurts the whole cyclists and motorists getting along thing. We watched as a bunch of cyclists blockaded someone trying to make a left turn in a pickup truck, and while the driver shouldn't have been inching out to cut off what are essentially other vehicles in the road, the cyclists should've stopped at the red and not been all "woo, we're being dicks, look at what a mass mob can do!". The guy eventually got so pissed he got out of his truck and ran one of the cyclists down and tried dragging him off his bike. Crazy. Luckiy it didn't get excessively violent, but still, really bad calls on both sides.

Anyway regarding my own cycling, now that I'm not sick, the two miles of gradual incline is much easier to handle. I need a haircut though, since now my hair is too long to spike up and stay that way post-helmet wearing.

We watched X-men 3 last night. One of these days I'm going to break down and gorge myself on Erik/Charles fic.

Today I'm doing a ton of homework in the hopes of having the next two days free. Traditional animation why are you so time consuming? @_@

Napping sounds fantastic right now

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Yesterday our brief get-some-fresh-air walk turned into a six mile loop. It was interesting on several levels and good exercise with the hills, but after coming home I didn't want to move or think. Luckily, no one else wanted to move or think either, so we piled on the futon and watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I love that movie. I didn't find it terribly slashy the first time around (more ot3 material) but this time I was feeling it. It helps that Robert Downey Jr always makes me all tingly inside. We also watched The Host, which we all went into wondering if it was going to be funny or more creepy like Save the Green Planet. Although I do loves me the horror movies, I was happy it was slanted more towards the former. Pretty nice creature effects, too.

After KKBB, I find myself with a powerful want for SPN crossovers like you wouldn't believe. I think SPN is like my little black dress of crossovers. Dean and Sam are fun anywhere. *_* Today I'm mostly going to be fucking around with various site things and trying to beta more of the fics Blue has been churning out. My beta seems to be broken though. I feel like I'm stuck in just normal reader mode.

On the art front, I'm excited about my smutmas assignment, and I should probably scan a few things in to post even though I can't really colour them.
