eMusic is changing their membership types in a way that I fail to understand. In order for them to include more mainstream music from Sony's catalogue I will soon pay more to get fewer songs. Given that all those songs are easily found elsewhere, I don't see the point of blurring their focus. Bleh. I'm torn as to whether or not to keep my subscription. Still, I've gotten a ton of good music lately, so it does fulfill my need for exposure to new, shiny things.
Such as The Be Good Tanyas, Breathe Owl Breathe, Camera Obscura, and Cut Off Your Hands.

Lakes of Pontchartrain sample from their website. (Not a full track.)
Gorgeous folksy/alt-country style with a lot of catchy fingerpicking melodies and strong vocals. I adore their cover of the Lakes of Pontchartrain. Blue Horse has a nice range of mood with all the songs holding their own.
Breathe Owl Breathe
Also folksy and bluegrassy with catchy fingerpicking and some lovely cello accompaniment. Kids + Cats and Run Off are my favourites on the Canadian Shield album. They make me think of Wes Anderson movies.
Camera Obscura
Possibly one of my current favourites. They've got this dreamy yet catchy retro sound that just knocks me out.

I'm currently more in love with their song "Let's Get Out of Here" off their You & I album, but the only linkable thing I can find is a really blown out live video. Still, fast and catchy and, apparently, brought to you by very cute band members. :3
