Hancock

Okay, who has seen it and can squeal with me?

J and I just got back from seeing Hancock with [info]nekofreak. omfg. I expected it to be a fairly standard summer blockbuster: a complete popcorn muncher with some feel-good character transformation, but wow, the whole thing was so much more than I expected! My mind is blown two nights in a row. The tone was interesting, and even if some of the scenes ran long or felt constructed entirely for a summer audience, a lot of the themes throughout were just fascinating.

It totally kept me wondering what was going to happen next in a very good way, and I'm so curious about some of the symbolism. For once I actually liked Charlize Theron rather than just feeling overly meh about her. This could be in part due to the fact that Jason Bateman's character is a Big Adorable Puppy and their relationship didn't at all feel contrived.

Need I bother to mention that Will Smith looks smoking hot in tight leather? Possibly I should, because he does, although there was a noticeable lack of gratuitous showering ala I Robot.

I totally need fic for this.

eta:There is possibly some meta bouncing around in my head, especially since there are some parallels that can be made to Iron Man, but that will need to stew in my brain for a bit since I don't make with journalling my metathoughts very often. :3
  • Ooh. I want to see that - trying to decide between it and Hulk for my boy-free weekend. Although the boy made noise like he wanted to see Hancock...but the previews left me thinking it was maybe not so much with the age-appropriate.
    • I really really liked it. It wasn't anything really like I'd expected it to be.

I have no idea how you rank things when it comes to movies for the boy, but I honestly think it had a sweeter story (and definitely less debauchery) than Iron Man. Most of the violence was fairly standard comic-book movie with things being thrown around and such and lots of collateral damage without people actually getting hurt. There was a chunk of language and one pointlessly gratuitous scene which would be HILARIOUS if I were actually 12, but it's not at all just a simple superhero redemption story. I adored it. :3

...also Jason Bateman's character Rob? And Hancock? TOTALLY BOYFRIENDS I SWEAR OMG.
      • That sounds like it'd be okay for him, then - the more over-the-top and comic-book style, the better. He gets really freaked out over ghosts and psychos and stuff that could be real, but Iron Man didn't phase him in the least. Although the beau totally sobbed when Stark busted up his car, but that's another story.

THANK YOU JEEBUS I was hoping for boyfriends yay!!

Oh! And! One of the actors from SPN is going to be in the Watchmen movie. Not one of the boys - I think the guy that plays their dad...? Anyway, saw that tidbit and thought of you and Blue. :D
        • No ghosts or psychos so I think he'll be fine. And I bet he'll LOVE that aforementioned if I were 12 scene. You'll know it when you see it. Gyah, I totally want to say more, but I will keep a lid on my squee for fear of spoilers. :3

They are so completely boyfriends I can hardly contain myself.

\o/ I know omg! I am so rusty on my Watchmen canon since it was so very long ago that I was actually reading comics, but yeeee, yes! That would be Jeffrey Dean Morgan who is just purrrrr.
          • I'm finally reading Watchmen right now - part of my recent kick of American comics. He looks good in the pic I've seen of him done up as the Comedian! :D
      • Saw it. omg. Is there OT3 porn yet? How about now?

        ...Now?

p.s. - I think I was more 12 than the boy was. *^^* It was the guy crossing himself that sent me o'er yonder edge.
        • I know, right?! ZOMG. I started writing something, although it's coming along slowly.

How awesome is the mythos they set up for the world though? I mean it becomes so epic!

Ahahrh. XD It would've been more funny if they hadn't actually /shown/ it.
          • I mean, it's just...right. there. They're asking for OT3 porn, is what they're doing. And yeah - they give you the background on a silver platter. The possibilities just go on and on!

I started writing something, although it's coming along slowly.

            \o/!!!!

It would've been more funny if they hadn't actually /shown/ it.

Yeah, the reaction shots were more than enough to make the gag work. Big tough hardened criminals flinching back in horror - you really don't need to take it any further than that.
  • That is on my must see list. I can't wait! ^____^
  • I went and saw it for a birthday party. I went into it not expecting much more than just another superhero movie, but I was delightfully impressed. There were more than a few times where I was like, 'well, huh. That was different.' I just wish the ending was slightly different.
  • *squees with you* ♥
  • I really want to see this, I've heard that it's really so much better and more complicated then people think.
