Okay, who has seen it and can squeal with me?
J and I just got back from seeing Hancock with
nekofreak. omfg. I expected it to be a fairly standard summer blockbuster: a complete popcorn muncher with some feel-good character transformation, but wow, the whole thing was so much more than I expected! My mind is blown two nights in a row. The tone was interesting, and even if some of the scenes ran long or felt constructed entirely for a summer audience, a lot of the themes throughout were just fascinating.
It totally kept me wondering what was going to happen next in a very good way, and I'm so curious about some of the symbolism. For once I actually liked Charlize Theron rather than just feeling overly meh about her. This could be in part due to the fact that Jason Bateman's character is a Big Adorable Puppy and their relationship didn't at all feel contrived.
Need I bother to mention that Will Smith looks smoking hot in tight leather? Possibly I should, because he does, although there was a noticeable lack of gratuitous showering ala I Robot.
I totally need fic for this.
eta:There is possibly some meta bouncing around in my head, especially since there are some parallels that can be made to Iron Man, but that will need to stew in my brain for a bit since I don't make with journalling my metathoughts very often. :3

I have no idea how you rank things when it comes to movies for the boy, but I honestly think it had a sweeter story (and definitely less debauchery) than Iron Man. Most of the violence was fairly standard comic-book movie with things being thrown around and such and lots of collateral damage without people actually getting hurt. There was a chunk of language and one pointlessly gratuitous scene which would be HILARIOUS if I were actually 12, but it's not at all just a simple superhero redemption story. I adored it. :3
...also Jason Bateman's character Rob? And Hancock? TOTALLY BOYFRIENDS I SWEAR OMG.
THANK YOU JEEBUS I was hoping for boyfriends yay!!
Oh! And! One of the actors from SPN is going to be in the Watchmen movie. Not one of the boys - I think the guy that plays their dad...? Anyway, saw that tidbit and thought of you and Blue. :D
They are so completely boyfriends I can hardly contain myself.
\o/ I know omg! I am so rusty on my Watchmen canon since it was so very long ago that I was actually reading comics, but yeeee, yes! That would be Jeffrey Dean Morgan who is just purrrrr.
...Now?
p.s. - I think I was more 12 than the boy was. *^^* It was the guy crossing himself that sent me o'er yonder edge.
How awesome is the mythos they set up for the world though? I mean it becomes so epic!
Ahahrh. XD It would've been more funny if they hadn't actually /shown/ it.
I started writing something, although it's coming along slowly.
\o/!!!!

Yeah, the reaction shots were more than enough to make the gag work. Big tough hardened criminals flinching back in horror - you really don't need to take it any further than that.
