This post, I feel, is a very constructive set of links by [info]msilverstar for protests and actions as well as a campaign to reach out from the more liberal areas of California to the central and far more conservative areas.

As a Californian, the Prop 8 ranting I've been running across is somewhat demoralizing, but times like this I think prove to me that I'm essentially an optimist and I handle coping with disappointment by not wasting energy on being angry. 52 percent is a small majority. With stronger organization and outreach, next time we'll do better!

J and I are headed downtown now, and despite the dampener to my first proper set of days off, it's lovely out.

ETA: [info]mrkinch also linked to this article that appeared on Daily Kos, which was a good overview of how and why the ruling was made. It begins with this statement: "Today's California Supreme Court decision did not concern gay marriage and equal protection directly; instead, the issue was self-governance itself." Beyond looking to earn the majority percentage in the next election, evaluating the ways in which the California constitution itself does not serve the people should be a goal. The article also links to another Kos post by the Public Policy Director of The Courage Campaign offering a nice set of links on how to start working to repeal Prop 8.

soon i will need more shelves

In happier news, who has two thumbs and a stack of Secret Invasion trades?

:D

I also picked up the set of Astonishing X-men trades next door at Half-Price Books.

My willpower against the Absolute Batman:Hush hardcover grows more and more weak. It doesn't help that I picked up Lee's sketchbook at Wondercon, either. Maybe in a couple months when my comics fund builds up again.

Doing thumbnails now for my doujinshi. I'm going to try a bit of a different approach to panel layout for this story and see how it goes. I have such a problem relying on narrative, which is I suppose in part because I'm converting more from prose than working from a script.
