Yesterday I could finally say I made it past my second cold of the winter season. Thank goodness. I am done with being sick for quite a while, I hope. Usually I don't sleep in much anymore since I tend to be up so early during the week, but clearly I was catching up on sleep since I made it nearly all the way to eleven. Rest of the day was packed with needed errands and other things, and after a few more necessary bits of going out today and dealing with paperwork for upcoming year-in-review meetings, I managed to sit down and READ THINGS.

I have almost managed to comment on all the lovely extra goodies that came my way this Yuletide. Hopefully I'll also have time to respond to the feedback I got from folks on my own story as well. Still planning on making rec posts, as I've continued to keep a zillion tabs open, and I'm already feeling the slowdown at work. So relieved.

I went home from work early on Thursday. I stayed home today. Mini vacay? If only! I have a cold. Again. The week prior being rather hellish and then spending the holiday with three young kids plus the brother-in-law who'd been working at a toystore and I was somewhat asking for it but I really, really did not want to spend this weekend with a stuffy head and general blah. I also hate that I'm completely whiny and useless when I have a cold.

I'm hoping tomorrow will have me relatively vertical rather than noodly and only capable of draping myself over padded furniture and absorbing 10th Doctor episodes. In a bit, if I'm feeling bold, I may switch to watching Sneakers and flop on the other end of the couch.

So very whiny, omg.

First person can be so tough to pull off, but I can't imagine this any other way. Daphne's voice is perfect and this fic is too adorable for words. My request was for Sugar to have to dress as a man for some reason, and imagining her in Beinstock's suit and bossing around a booking agent is just TOO FUN. This is my absolute most favorite movie and I was iffy about requesting it since I love the canon so much, but getting this fic I am so very glad I put it on the list!

Low Life - X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - Gen (Remy and Logan) - Remy trips over an old man he met once, under fairly memorable circumstances.

Everything Remy should've been in the movie, and everything I love about him all in a single fic. Set post-film wherein Remy trips over an unconscious Logan and brings him home. It's a basic premise and yet it gives such a fantastic peek into Remy's life and the way he thinks. Beautifully written with nods towards greater canon that made me all kinds of flaily.

OMG this fic! I didn't expect humour for the pairing when I requested it, and this is as fun as punching Deathwing in the face. For reals. There's a little bit of adorableness that's practically all "will you stay in my alcove with me, circle one, y/n" and some badass fighting, and a whole of Thassarian has epic feels for Koltira sprinkled with bantery flirting. Next time I raise a Bone Shield, I'm pretty sure I'm going to LOL.

One guess as to what I finally got around to watching.

Screwing around on my day off feels pretty marvelous. Sketched some linework yesterday, then came back to it today. Overworked this and should've saved it out about twenty minutes ago, but pleased to be painting again. Think I'll work on something more linebased next!

J got the job he's been trying for! It's for a great company, doing something in his field that's more on the education end (versus actually animating) so I know he's going to love it. He'll have time to pursue his own projects and painting on the side too. :D I'm so excited.

Since he pulled in some nice checks this month from freelance gigs, the ridiculous injection of money into the economy begins shortly. Firstly, new clothes so he looks presentable and maybe some goodies to decorate his cube. Then new phones for the both of us. Then my tattoo since I can finally conscience spending money on it. Then simultaneously paying off our student loans and saving for a proper trip somewhere. zomg wee!

Work project done! Next week begins a period of actually having evenings and weekends again! J has a job interview coming up (second interview! woot!) which I hope goes well enough that I might be able to at least attend y-con for one day so I can cruise the artist alley, but otherwise this'll be the first year I haven't attended since year one. Madness.

I cooked things today. And also I worked on my little Daken sculpture. I may be getting a set of colour shapers for my b-day for which I am completely excited. I miss doing sculpture more than I thought, although I think I need to do some creature sculpts or something a little more free form than humanoids to experiment with texturing.

I also am sitting here considering starting a tumblr to easily post all the random shit I have sketched today.

I have an unrealistic deadline for a project at work that is completely draining me of all energy. The day-to-day tasks have fallen off so that's at least one thing, but ugh. I'm a pretty stupidly workaholic employee in the first place, so it says a lot that I'm really hitting my limit here. I'm going to take my two weeks before my assistant leaves for uni and I need to worry about looking for someone to replace her. I'm also going to take a couple days in the coming week since I've been putting in so much OT. If things go splodey, it will not be my fault as I've already voiced my severe apprehension about rushing the timeline on this whole thing.

I tried working on some commission stuff today and got some linework done. I need to step back from it a bit though, especially since I'm completely unfamiliar with the subjects. Taking a break from that I skimmed the feed for the art blogs I follow, and I found a piece by Joshua Middleton that I liked a lot. I wanted to try and emulate the colouring style (quasi master copy, woot). I ended up redrawing a super old bit of fanart that I'd sketched out in like 2003 so I wouldn't have to think a lot about subject/pose. Of course I ended up having to since the original is so wonky, but well it saved me a lot of preliminary work. :3 But man, can I possibly do something other than profile pieces? Apparently not.

I actually have a three day weekend (well 2.5 day weekend since there's a crapload of emails I need to respond to) so I'm hoping to get more drawing done so I stop feeling so f'ing rusty. After next week the day job starts getting slower and slower, plus I've got 2 weeks vacay to take at some point in October or November.

I thought I was exhausted during the last busy season at work, but this year has been sooo much worse. The weather has really screwed with things so there are a zillion more customer complaints than I would normally have to handle. Three weeks and it'll be a slowdown again though, with the bulk of the shipping days behind me until the two-week or so holiday rush.

The only vaguely exciting thing (besides a work-related charity dinner) that I've done recently has been go and see Cap a couple times with co-worker in tow, and then this weekend went and saw Cowboys vs Aliens with nekofreak. Henceforth this movie shall be known as All About Daniel Craig's Pants. Oh man. I'm pretty sure there were special effects and other stuff going on, but I was UNABLE TO LOOK AWAY FROM HIS PANTS. I had the same problem with Hidalgo, I remember nothing about that movie besides how tight Viggo's pants were. Cowboys. Ha.

I've been trying to draw when I get home at night. Mostly this means I grab my sketchpad and end up watching old Stargate episodes instead.

Rambly post is rambly. But also, hello I do still exist. :3

Busy season is more busy than last year. Plus event coordination. Plus packaging design. Plus a zillion other things.

I have had enough free time to see Captain America twice. Today my co-worker and I skipped out early to catch a showing.

I had no idea I could adore Chris Evans this much. Such is the power of Steve. \o/

Work has been downright crazycakes lately. Too much to do and more projects than I can manage reasonably. The seasonal (and primary!) component of my job has ratcheted up and I have a lot of VIP clients who I personally take care of so all those zillion projects are having to take a back seat. On top of this we're on a trial period with FedEx instead of UPS as our primary provider. Things had smoothed out on the shipping end until this week when the weather really screwed with deliveries. One day delays due to thunderstorms because planes arrive in TN for FedEx instead of PA for UPS means we're off to a poor start. Fuf. I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow.

On the flip side I've been dealing with so much design and packaging and pointless meetings that I'd forgotten how much I love the customer end of my job. One of my clients sent me an absolutely lovely card today and another has told me to keep an eye out for a gift. I await the day that cars and diamonds start showing up as thanks for my awesome customer service. :p

I hope that this weekend I can do some serious drawing.

Took Friday off and went camping this weekend. There was still snow in part of the campground. Cue my being a coastal Californian and being all LOOK SNOW and poking it with a stick. True story.

We came back in time to watch Thor on Sunday. I haven't quite caught up with my EPIC SQUEE yet. I will note that I like this community: comicbookmovies because even if I like paper comics, it's the movies that get me to do fannish things. I wish I could find time to draw.

Which in theory would be easier without ALL THIS STUFF TO WATCH SRSLY. I'm caught up now on Game of Thrones. I had a tough time with the premiere in that I didn't feel engaged and was more sitting there feeling like oh this is the same/different also that is not at all how I pictured _____.

I'm catching up slowly on Fringe, too. I miss a lot of the dynamics from early eps, and some of the mythos has hit a peeve button or two, but I've gotten past the big moment which made me need to stop watching for a bit and am looking forward to getting through the rest of the season. Hopefully I can do that before I accidentally get spoiled about anything. Facebook, I'm looking at you.

Went to a wedding yesterday for two of my co-workers. Best wedding ever! The whole thing was totally chill without a lot of formality I've endured in other weddings I've gone to. My other fav co-worker was DJing and taught me how to setup the equipment and then how the turntables work. Let's just say it is not my forte.... The only downside was the guests I didn't know spoke rapid-fire spanish to me and my comprehension when there is LOUD music is not as good as it is otherwise. Also I have discovered I can drive just fine in high-heeled boots.

My to-do list for today is: finish a thumbnail revision for approval, go out with J for our regular Sunday sandwich and latte, polish and submit the progress sketch for a bookcover, beat down some Alliance in the 20-25 bracket, beat down some Horde in the 45-50 bracket, work a bit on some other outstanding art obligations, and then maybe bake some muffins or something. Also if the weather heats up as much as it is supposed to and the apartment gets unbearably hot, there will be retreating to the theatre to see Fast Five.

Work is busy. This seems to be my mantra of late, to the point where I feel I have nothing interesting to post that is not omgworkblah related. I haven't even watched Game of Thrones yet, and the only drawing I've done has been for paying gigs.

Normally I would be watching TV when I get home hours late and am too exhausted to do anything, but I've still been throwing that time at WoW instead. Apparently I can tank mid-level randoms or PVP when I'm exhausted. Heyyy adrenaline.

So Easter Sunday was also my niece's birthday. It was a little overwhelming with tons of family, but it was good to see them all. There were carnitas and fresh made tortillas so it was epic noms. They also have a new rescue pitbull who was just the sweetest thing ever. I wanted to steal him for my very own. Pet starved much?

Stacking onto the visit, J's brother got us tickets to see Two Gallants the same night at Bottom of the Hill. It was an awesome show and both the openers were good although I didn't catch the name of the second. It wasn't as loud of a show as Cymbals Eat Guitars, but I wish I'd remembered my earplugs.

Subject relevant to the snack I just had which was completely delicious.

Yesterday J and I caught up with one of our best friends who'd moved to NZ for a few years and is now back in the States. We met his fiance for the first time and went to lunch together. She was tons of fun. We ended up taking them to Berkeley Bowl to find some fruits that are typically harder to find like cherimoyas. It's always a good reminder of how spoiled we are living here when we have so much availability for produce. Anyway, I'm trying to finish projects today. Here's to hoping I manage to cross one of my list. I did take a break to draw what's going to soon be some 5'x5' wall art for our living room, which crosses off the preliminary part of one personal project!
